On Pins and Needles...

March 31st, 2016 at 03:24 pm

I'm getting jittery about several things...

1) My second dress fitting is Saturday morning. I believe this will be my last with this seamstress. She was ridiculously expensive (more than twice what my dress cost), and that didn't include the bustle or cups. Since I'm not as concerned about those elements messing up the dress, I'm taking it to an independent seamstress for those items. My mom and future mother-in-law will be coming with me. They are the only ones who've seen me in the dress.

2) My bachelorette party is this weekend. My bridesmaids are spread out all over the country, but 3 of them worked to put together this amazing weekend. I have no clue what we'll be doing, but I'm so excited! It's supposed to be chillier than I anticipated, so I'm not sure my outfits will work, but we'll see.

3) Our lease is up in August. We just went through a very brief phase of considering buying before we found out that we can't count DF's income until he has two years average since he's commission-based. Our current plan is to lease for one more year and start house hunting in February/March. Given the amount we've managed to come up with for the wedding in about 9 months, I'm guessing we'll have about 30k for a down payment. Not stellar, but should be enough to qualify us for an FHA mortgage.

4) DF's had an amazing month. He's got a few potentials lined up today, so we'll see how the month finishes out. I'm really anxious for him to get his pay sheet as it'll help me figure out these last wedding payments. We made a $4k payment towards the venue, but owe $1500 more. We also still have the DJ ($920), photographer ($1370), videographer ($450), and caterer ($3k). I can't believe how ridiculously expensive the wedding industry is.

Sidenote: one of DF's great-uncles asked if he could bring 8 guests...Are you kidding me????

Who are these 8 guests? Friends of the family? Relations? I think we overlooked some people that should have/could have been invited to our wedding. In the end, not a big deal.

DF barely knows the great-uncle. The 8 guests are his kids (7 of whom are adults) which I think makes them distant cousins of some sort. Future mother-in-law didn't include them on the list, and we gave all adults a +1, so to add in 14 guests when we've already invited well over our estimated number of guests is a lot, and we just cannot do it.

She asked about the Rehearsal Dinner which is open to everyone since it's very laid back (pizza and beer), so I think they are planning to bring everyone to that.

I guess he's thinking since he's family he can ask.

LAL, I'd understood if it were someone we talked with regularly, but if that were the case, then the kids would have made the initial list. I relied on his mom to give me the family list, and since she didn't include them, they didn't make it into our count. When I spoke with his wife, she said the kids wanted to see their cousin get married, but I ask DF and he doesn't even really know the great-aunt and uncle much less the kids!

VS, thank you! Apparently, things kick off tonight, so I'm really excited to see what's in store. I did do a little clothes shopping yesterday to have more weather appropriate clothing.

And just so it's recorded somewhere, here's my guesses for this weekend:
Friday night - I was told a chill night at my BM's house; I think it's dinner, wine, and some sort of house party where they sell things (jewelry or even adult toys)
Saturday day - I know that the day part is outside and 21+; I'm guessing a wine tour.
Saturday night - I know going out; I'm guessing one or more DC clubs.
Sunday - I know nothing; I think brunch.

Good luck with your second fitting! The person I used charged $75 for the bustle and bra cups, and $100 for hemming. She was absolutely fantastic! I'm supposed to try on the dress again in about a week (two weeks out!!) and if any changes need to be made, she'll do it as part of the original price.

Your bachelorlette weekend sounds like a lot of fun!
