Trying and Failing

November 7th, 2017 at 01:18 pm

I think we've just accepted at this point that more debt is okay given the circumstances. We got another fence quote. Given that we were approved for financing, and DD1 doesn't have much longer, we decided to go for it and get the yard fenced in, so he can enjoy being out.

His favorite thing in the world is just to lay in the sunshine with his ball, and God willing, we're going to let him do that as long as the weather holds and he feels up to it.

His oncology appointment is this afternoon. We already know that we don't want to put him through chemo, but we do want to discuss any homeopathic options or supplements that could keep his quality of life up. Over the weekend, his energy dropped substantially, he stopped drinking water, and he threw up everything he ate.

I made him eggs which he managed to keep down, so over the last few days, I've been making him meals of eggs, pumpkin, and applesauce. His energy went way back up Sunday afternoon, so I've kept him on the home-cooked stuff and only added in a bit of dry food to round out his meals.

Since we've unfortunately taken on this additional debt, I'm really trying to buckle down and scale back. I cracked open the OAMC cookbook and used a bunch of chicken recipes to process the Zaycon Fresh chicken. We now have about a month's worth of dinners already made and in the freezer. Between that and the holidays, I'm hoping to make it to the new year with a very minimal grocery budget. We're also going to be scaling back Christmas gifts.

We weigh out for our 6-month Transformer in 2 days, so we've agreed that we each get to keep all of that money as our own spending money and will use it as the basis of our gift-giving money.

We do also have a few windfalls expected next year (taxes, PTO payout, and reenlistment bonus), so I'm hoping to right the ship as those come in.
