One Thing After Another

August 17th, 2017 at 01:36 pm

It's just one thing after another. I'm actually embarrassed to type it all out, but the short version is...we've spent about $6k this month. Most of it necessary, some of it frivolous. The only positive is that by my calculations from DH's overtime/per diem, we should only be short a couple hundred by the time the credit card bill is due. I think I can make up that deficit by keeping grocery/miscellaneous funds low. DH decided he didn't need the hotel in the city one night a week, so in the future weeks, we'll save that $200 from his per diem/reimbursement money.

DD2 ended up sick this past weekend which amounted to another $700 vet visit. She's feeling much better. She's still on meds and since she hates pills, it's a bit of a pain treating her.

Upcoming expenses include our $800 car tax bill and my friend's wedding which will necessitate a couple of day's hotel expenses, plus spending money. I do still have our Marriott Rewards card free night, so we'll probably use that to take out one of the nights.

That is an expensive month. Sorry about the vet bills! Have you tried pill pockets or another food your dog likes to help get those pills down? Check your Marriott points to see if you have enough for another night/or partial night beside the one free night they give each year. Consider changing hotels during the trip to find a lower cost option as well.

Thanks CCF. I was considering pill pockets, but I'm not sure they'll work. DD2 chews her food slowly, and she's found the pill in everything I've tried so far (her normal food, treats, and cheese). I've had to resort to prying her mouth open, putting it towards the back of her mouth, and then rubbing her throat to get her to swallow. Even then, she refuses to swallow until I use the phrases 'good girl' and 'treats', then she begins swallowing because she knows that she gets more food if she just takes the darn pill. It's gotten progressively more difficult to get her to take them, so I'm hoping we can make it through a whole other week, so she can finish out the antibiotic.

We do have about half of a category 3 stay in points, and given the spending, we should have a bit more in the coming months. I'm hoping to use the free night and get most of another night (although last I checked, our choices in that area were a bit limited, but we'll just drive a bit). The bride did offer her room the night before the wedding since they're staying separate, but I wouldn't feel comfortable having my husband stay there, and if we have to get a room for him, I'd rather stay with him unless she absolutely needs me.

My vet once used one of these on my cat Merlin.

I'll have to try that! I do have a treat launcher that might work too.
