Found my dress!!

July 27th, 2015 at 01:58 pm

It's odd because I don't even have my venue secured yet, but my dress is currently hanging in the living room at my mom's place. I went to a Brides Against Breast Cancer charity event where they sell pre-owned/used wedding dresses with .73 cents of every dollar going to breast cancer research. While doubtful that I'd find my dress, I figured I'd go and look just in case. I actually loved almost everything I tried on (about 6 dresses). However, when I tried on a strapless white chiffon gown with beading, I caught my breath! Even better, it was only $200 and fits like a glove Smile The only alterations needed will be to hem it and a strap if I decide to add one. I'd had my heart set on a one-strap princess-type gown. Since it's so long, the extra chiffon and beading they cut off can be repurposed into a single shoulder strap, so I have to decide if I still want it.

All told, I definitely think I will be able to stay under my $500 dress budget. Yay me!

What a lovely idea to support such an important women's issue. What an awesome price. I've never understood spending thousands on a dress only worn for 6 hours. Hope you'll look up the designer and dress 'name' to copy the promotion photos.

Excellent! I, too, got my dress before anything else was nailed down -- and I only paid $100! Of course, it was a long time ago. Smile My dress looks old-fashioned now -- it was an Edwardian style gown with an empire waist and puffed sleeves -- but it was the right dress in 1970, and I never regretted snatching it up at a bargain price! I made my own head piece and bought my own tulle for the veil, so my wedding attire was very frugal all round!

    Hi Lucille,

It's no bother at all, but I'm afraid I may not be too much help. I'm actually not plus size, but at the brides against breast cancer event, there was plenty of larger sizes. It seems though, that you think those might be too formal. If you're looking for something more casual, you may want to try googling casual plus-size wedding dress. Hope that helps you find what you're looking for!

Thank for your suggestions. I will do this and buy a good dress for my wedding.
